The Abbotsford Angels will play as Team BC at a tournament in Milwaukee, Wisc., later this month after the U15 boys Bantam AAA squad won the BC Baseball Elimination Tournament on Sunday.
The top AAA teams in the province gathered in Tsawwassen and Ladner for a four-day tournament.
The Angels were perfect through round-robin play with a 4-0 record with victories over Burnaby, White Rock, Nanaimo and Victoria.
On Sunday Abbotsford played Tri-Cities in the semi-finals. Carter Harbut took the mound and was dominant, striking out 11 and going all seven innings in a 4-0 victory.
The final featured a rematch between the Angels and Victoria. The teams previously met in a close round-robin game. Travis McDougall got the start and by the time he took the mound the Angels had already built a 5-0 lead.
Abbotsford had exploded for 16 runs in the first two innings. Victoria never gave up however, and clawed away at the Angels’ lead, getting to the Abbotsford pitchers like no other team had so far this season.
In the end, the big lead that the Angels had built up proved to be enough, and Abbotsford prevailed by a score of 17-11.
