It’s cold and snowy out now, but that doesn’t mean you can’t start dreaming of warmer weather and the chance to tee off in one of the premier golf tournaments in the East Kootenay.
Registration is now open for the 50th Annual East Kootenay Senior Men’s Open Golf Tournament, which will be held on Sunday, June 11th and Monday, June 12th at Fairmont Hot Springs Resort.
This will be the first time since 2011 that the two Fairmont Hot Springs Resort courses — Riverside and Mountainside — will be hosting the tournament with the event rotating to different courses each year.
Jeremy Johnson, Fairmont Head Pro and co-ordinator for the tournament, said they are happy to get the tournament back after a long layoff.
“It was very successful in 2011 and we had over 100 golfers,” he said. “We hope that it’s equally as successful this year.”
The entry free for the 36-hole stroke play tournament will be $119 ($79 for Fairmont Hot Springs Resort members) which includes both the Sunday and Monday rounds, the Sunday evening par 3 shootout held at the Creekside Golf Course, dinner following the Monday round, and prizes.
Times have been allocated for Friday, June 9th and Saturday, June 10th from 2 to 3 p.m. for practice rounds on both courses for those competing in the tournament. It’s important to note that the tournament is a qualifier for the BC Senior Amateur Team with four people with the top gross scores earning the qualification through this tournament.
Those looking to stay at the Fairmont Hot Springs Resort are encouraged to book rooms in the block of rooms that have been set aside, which will be held until May 12, 2017.
Full registration details will be sent out prior to March 6th, 2017. If you need more information, contact Johnson by phone at 250-345-6346 or by email at jjohnson@fhsr.com.
