The Courtenay/Comox Shito-ryu Karate Club is hosting the 11th annual Island Friendship Karate Tournament on Saturday, April 30 at the Comox Community Centre.
The action gets underway at 9:30 a.m. with beginner belt levels and team kata. This all-Island event will include kata (forms), team kata (synchronized forms) and weapons in the morning. Kumite (sparring) for both adults and kids from beginner to black belt is scheduled for the afternoon.
“It should be a great day of competition, fun, food and door prizes,” an event spokesperson said. “Spectators are welcome and this year all admission at the door will be donated to Japan tsunami relief through the Red Cross.”
All participating clubs and qualified officials are members of Karate BC, the only sanctioned sport governing body for karate in B.C.
