The South Cowichan Youth Softball Association wrapped up another successful season last month.

The SCYSA, which boasts leagues in four different age groups for players from five to 19, had smaller numbers this year, but still had more than 220 participants, and had to start a waiting list for the first time.

“That was something we’ve never needed before,” SCYSA president Derek Paton said.

On June 26, the final day of play for 2016, Mill Bay Pizza claimed the intermediate championship, while Dewar McCarthy received the sportsmanship award.

In the senior division, Shawnigan Jet Skis won the championship and Country Grocer was honoured for sportsmanship.

Instead of playing for championships, the intro and junior divisions had a fun day of play to finish up their seasons.

Paton is hoping to expand things again in 2017. Registration begins next March, and the season runs from April to June. Games are played at the Kerry Park and Shawnigan Hills softball fields.

“We’re looking forward to next year,” Paton said.
