Not rain, thunder nor lightning could stop the Bighorn Bow Hunters Archery Club from hosting a successful traditional shoot last weekend at Timothy Lake.

The annual event was held at Northwood Lodge on the lake and, although participants did get caught in the frequent downpours, they just held onto their tents and carried on, says Bighorn member denise swift.

A total of 94 archers competed in the annual 3D shoot, which swift says, is the largest traditional shoot in British Columbia.

It started 25 years ago at Helena Lake with just a handful of people and grew steadily, as it gained popularity as a nice, easy-going shoot.

Competitors came from all over the province, including Chase, Kamloops, Greater Vancouver, Squamish, Williams Lake, Quesnel, Prince George and Mackenzie.

The Bighorn club had several of its members score in the top 3 of their respective divisions. Bob Plewes was third in men’s longbow and Marcel Baur who was third in men’s recurve.

Rob Altmannschofer won the primitive men’s event and Ted Swift was third.

denise swift placed first in ladies longbow and Donna Reichardt was third in ladies recurve.

Sebastian Riley was the winner in the youth recurve division, and Devon Dunkel was third.

Prince George area shooter Taylor Sapergia was the winner in men’s longbow and Fred Steloff of Williams Lake won men’s recurve. Colin Wilson of Williams Lake made up his own category – men’s miss a lot – and went on to win that honour, and Maureen Graham of Prince George was the winner in ladies recurve.

First-place visiting junior archers were Clint Baker of Prince George in junior recurve, Forrest Baker also of Prince George in cub’s longbow, Cole Skerry from Williams Lake in mini cub recurve and Ashton McDonough from Mackenzie in mini cub longbow.
