Danica Ariano of the Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre was a double medalist at the B.C. Biathlon Cup in Whistler last weekend.
Ariano finished with the same shooting percentage as some of the other top competitors, in Saturday’s six-kilometre sprint, but a really strong ski earned saw her cross the line first.
Sunday’s 7.5-k mass start race brought heavy snow and gusting winds, making both shooting and skiing challenging. Coming into the range, Ariano had to make calculated adjustments to her shooting sights in order to account for the changing winds.
She was able to record 60 per cent over four bouts of shooting, skiing into second place on her final lap and holding that position for another podium finish.
Ariano is hoping to meet the standards to qualify for this years’ National Biathlon Championships in Prince George. Her performances at Whistler got her one step closer to reaching that goal.
