Armada dance and cheer teams ready for Totem 62

Both the Alberni District Secondary School dance and cheer teams will be performing at the upcoming Totem 62 Tournament.

The Armada basketball teams will be competing in Totem 62, but the tournament is also an opportunity for a couple of other school athletic programs to participate.

The Armada cheerleading team will be performing at all the feature games, as well as the halftime show, for both the boys and the girls basketball teams.

The cheerleaders will be cheering the teams on by sharing the routine that they normally use when they compete on the Lower Mainland, said head coach Lizabeth Bill.

“It should be a great weekend,” she said.

The Armada dance team will also be performing during spirit week and during the halftime show. The team is made up of dancers who come from schools like Elite and Stage West, but who practice together at ADSS.

“This is an opportunity for them all to dance together,” said coach Lindsay Colba.

The team is coached by Colba and Jennifer Anderson. Kendall Anderson also does choreography.

The dance team has created a “Totem Dance” especially for the event. The dance is a simple one that others can participate in, similar, Colba says, to the “Cha Cha Slide.”

“The media class filmed them, and they went out to elementary schools to teach it to kids,” she said. “It should be a lot of fun.”
