The U15 Boys’ soccer team is gearing up for the Northern Cup in two weeks, the zone event that seeds to provincials.
“Terrace, Prince George and [Rupert] will take part. It’s only three teams, and two of the three teams go down to provincials. So, we are liking our odds on this one,” coach Gordon Armstrong said.
The weekend after the team’s trip to Nelson they hosted a tune up at home.
“We beat Terrace U14 1-0. We mixed the team up positionally. The second half we had possession the entire time. We are off to Terrace this weekend, where we will play Smithers U16 and Terrace U15. We’re excited for these games,” Armstrong said.
In terms of understanding the game, and how the players are improving, Armstrong is confident in his club.
“We’re getting the style I want to play down, the players are learning where they have to be on the field, and how to adjust. After some of the harder games we had in Nelson, we are looking forward to some tough games against the older boys here soon.”
Armstrong wanted to thank the team’s sponsors, who without them there would be far less opportunity for the athletes.
“We’d like to thank the Pacific North West LNG and the Prince Rupert Grain Terminal for helping us with all the travel and uniform costs this year.
“They made it possible for all these kids to be able to play the game.”
