A pair of Pleasant Valley Secondary track and field athletes from Armstrong reached the podium at the Valley Royals Invitational last weekend in Abbotsford.

Ella Brown (Grade 12) and Tyra Gilbert (Grade 11), both members of the Vernon Triple A Track and Field Club, each recorded personal bests in claiming medals.

Gilbert was runner-up in the youth women’s 100-metre hurdles, knocking more than a second off her previous best to finish in 14.78 seconds.

Brown turned in a leap of 11.46m to claim gold in the junior women’s triple jump. The new PB was 22cm further than her previous best. She also had other jumps of 11.33m and 11.21m.

“Both the girls are extremely excited about how their season is going,” said Vernon Triple A coach Ian Cameron.

“They’ve put in an immense amount of work to get themselves faster and more powerful and more technically proficient than they have ever been before, and the results are the proof that all the effort is paying off.”
