A free information session on athletic scholarships for male and female athletes and parents of all sports is being held Wednesday, Sept 28 at 7 p.m. at Strathcona Gardens Recreation Centre
Athletes in British Columbia are extremely fortunate to have such a wide variety of outstanding athletic choices to choose from.
British Columbia offers its male and female athletes outstanding programs in just about every sport imaginable. As a result of the excellent sports programs and coaching, athletes from B.C. are quickly becoming more visible on the national, international and professional stages. Campbell River is certainly no exception.
However, the pathway to the top is not always an easy one and families are spending extraordinary amounts of time, energy and money in an effort to help their children reach their goals of playing at the college/university, national and professional levels.
In an effort to assist more athletes and their families with the confusing world of college/university athletics, Courtenay’s, Bill Green has become an invaluable resource. Green’s son, fulfilled his dreams of playing for the Canadian National Baseball Team and the Milwaukee Brewers of Major League Baseball. His son played in the BC Premier Baseball League with the Parksville Royals before attending Cypress College in California where he was drafted by the Brewers.
“The pathway to your dreams can be a challenging, yet wonderful experience,” says Green. “There are so many male and female athletes in B.C. who have the potential to move on to the college or university level, but never get the chance because they don’t know what to do.” Bill wants to change that!
As a former school principal, Bill understands how athletes can use the education system to their advantage. Designing an athlete’s academic, athletic and social lives around their goals and dreams is what Bill does best! Since helping his son with the process, Bill has now worked with over 1000 male and female athletes in a variety of sports, including baseball, softball, soccer, hockey, lacrosse, tennis, golf, volleyball, sailing, rowing, wrestling, and even fencing and opera singing!
“My goal is to help families understand the process involved in recruiting and college/university scholarships so that more kids can feel the joy and fulfillment of combining their academics and athletics at the highest level,” says Green. And Bill has the credentials to do so as he has also taught in the Sport and Exercise Education Program at Camosun College in Victoria. In addition to his classroom duties, Green has worked with athletes at the Pacific Institute for Sports Excellence and the Canadian Sport School. As a long time coach and competitive athlete, Bill has decided to focus his expertise on helping families with the steps they need to take to acquire academic and athletic scholarships at the university level.
Green’s goal is to help local families, particularly on the North Island because he was born and raised in the Comox Valley. Make the time to come and experience Bill’s message on Wed. Sept 28 to parents and athletes wishing to get to the next level. For more information, please contact Bill at 250 702 5071 or billgreen6@gmail.com.
