Local atom hockey player Shayne Sutton joined the Vancouver Canucks on the Rogers Arena ice on Nov. 14.

Standing on the blue line between Vancouver Canucks stars Daniel Sedin and Kevin Bieksa in front of 18,000-plus fans at Rogers Arena on Nov. 14 was a 100 Mile House atom division Wrangler named Shayne Sutton.

Vancouver hosted the Arizona Coyotes – and got lit up 5-0 – and Sutton, in her 100 Mile House Wranglers’ colours, hit the ice with the Canucks as a winner in the Every Kid’s Dream contest.

The contest, a partnership with Save on Foods, BC Hockey and the Canucks, offers registered British Columbia minor hockey players between the ages of eight and 13 to be in the Canucks starting lineup every home game, and join the team on the ice for the singing of the national anthem.

The player and guests are then free to watch the rest of the game from complimentary seats.

Bieksa happens to be Sutton’s favourite Canuck.

“I’m so happy,” Sutton said in 100 Mile House a few days before the game. “And I’m so excited and I’m so hyper.”
