B.C. 10th in ringette nationals

B.C. finished 10th out of 15 teams at the Tim Hortons Canadian Under 16 Ringette Championships in Fort McMurray.

B.C. finished 10th out of 15 teams at the Tim Hortons Canadian Under 16 Ringette Championships in Fort McMurray.

The Lower Mainland Thunder represented B.C. and picked up Vernon stars Emma Carter, Evangeline Koshure and Kendra Ostafie, along with Kate Young from Quesnel.

Ostafie pocketed one goal and two helpers, while Carter supplied 1+1 as B.C. shaded Saskatchewan 4-3 in round-robin play Thursday night. Koshure was sold on defence.i

The Thunder lost 12-4 to Manitoba Magic Friday afternoon in a game for ninth. Young pulled the hat trick, while Ostafie added the other snipe for B.C. It was 3-3 at the break. Taylor Hildebrand had 2+4 for Manitoba.

Manitoba’s top entry grounded Ontario 6-4 for the gold Saturday, while Alberta clipped the Calgary Pursuit 5-4 in overtime for bronze.
