The B.C. Midget Baseball Provincial Championships are coming to Parksville in July, bringing in a tournament that will see the winner representing B.C. in the national championships in Sheerbrooke, Quebec.
With the decision coming down recently, Oceanside Minor Baseball will host the tournament, July 16-19, that will feature the best midget (grade 10-12) baseball teams in B.C.
“It’s great for Oceanside baseball,” Royals coach Dave Wallace said. “We’re very happy about hearing that we’re going to be hosting this event.”
“It’s going to be a fantastic tournament, giving us the chance to showcase our fine facilities here at Springwood Park.”
For Wallace, his Royals team will have a chance to take part in the tournament, as the Royals don’t have any players that are graduated from high school.
It gives them a chance to not only play some extra baseball, but also a chance to represent B.C. at the national championships.
“It’s a nice thing for us,” Wallace said. “We don’t have any over-age players so we’re eligible to take part in the tournament.”
“It also gives us an extra chance to play some more games and it’s right near the end of the BCPBL season too. Hopefully by that time, we’ll be in position to make the BCPBL playoffs and have a chance to win the B.C.’s to represent our province at the nationals.”
