Kelowna’s Quinci Birker and partner Darby Dunn from Langley are returning home to B.C. with some national hardware in their possession.
Birker and Dunn captured the bronze medal in women’s beach volleyball at the Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg.
In the third-place game, the B.C. duo took care of Nova Scotia 2-0 (21-10 and 21-14.)
Birker and Dunn battled through their toughest challenge in the quarterfinals, rallying from behind to defeat host Manitoba 2-1 (15-21, 25-23, 15-13).
Birker and Dunn have had previous success at national events. They won the gold medal last summer at the Western Canada Summer Games in Fort McMurray, Alta.
Last season on B.C.’s pro beach tour, the Team B.C. partners finished second overall in points.
Birker, 19, is a KSS grad and member of the UBC Okanagan Heat women’s volleyball squad.
