B.V. Nitehawks extend winning streak to 15 games

The Beaver Valley Nitehawks won a pair of road games over Golden and Columbia Valley on the weekend.

The 18-3-1-1 Beaver Valley Nitehawks have proven unbeatable throughout October and November winning their 15th KIJHL match in a row on the weekend with a 10-3 drubbing of the Golden Rockets on Friday and a close 3-2 win over the Columbia Valley Rockies on Saturday.

The last time the Nitehawks lost a game was Sept. 30 in a 3-2 overtime loss to Nelson, which capped off a string of three straight losses. Since then the Hawks have won every one of their 15 matches in regulation time, dominating the Neil Murdoch Division and rising to second overall in the KIJHL just two points back of the 19-4-1-1 Creston Valley Thunder Cats but with a game in hand.

Beaver Valley’s Sam Swanson had a three-point night against the Rockies on Saturday, and Kyle Hope notched the winning goal with five minutes remaining in the third period to lead the Nitehawks to their 18th victory of the season.

Swanson made it 1-0 at 11:02 of the opening frame converting a Jake Yuris pass as the Nitehawks outsthot the Rockies 12-4.

Rockies forward Nicholas Wihak tied the game midway through the second period but B.V. regained the lead at the 6:06 mark when Aiden Browell counted his eighth of the year with assists going to Swanson and McKoy Hauk.

After Hope scored notched 11th goal of the season to make it 3-1, the Rockies Craig Ofner tallied a power-play marker at 3:38 to close out the scoring.

B.V. outshot C.V. 48-21 and went 1-for-8 on the powerplay while the Rockies were 1-for-6.

On Friday, the Nitehawks broke open a 1-1 tie against Golden, scoring five times in the second period for a 6-2 lead. The Hawks added four more in the third with Nolan Percival and Tyler Hartman scoring two goals, while Bradley Ross, Evan Gorman, Mitch Foyle, Hauk, Jaxon Gemmel, and a Swanson added singles in the 10-3 drubbing. Swanson also added three assists for a four point night, while Hauk and Hartman had three points in the match.

The Nitehawks outshot the Rockets 47-25 and went 2-for-5 on the PP while Golden was 2-for-6.

Swanson has been on fire for the Hawks, netting seven points in the two games on the weekend and has 14 points over a five game point-scoring streak.

The Hawks next game goes Saturday when they host the Spokane Braves at the B.V. Arena at 7:30 p.m.
