For the second straight weekend, the Okanagan Rockets will play a pair of BCMML games at the Richmond Oval.
And for the second week in a row, the games will play a big hand in determining where the Rockets’ touch down at the end of the regular season.
The Rockets, currently third in the BCMML with 41 points, will visit the Greater Vancouver Canadians for a pair of games on Saturday and Sunday.
Okanagan is a point back of the second-place Vancouver Northwest Giants in the compacted MML standings, while the Northeast Chiefs are just a point back of the Rockets, while the Valley West Hawks are only five back.
“The next 10 games are obviously crucial for us and as I keep saying, you have to go into the playoffs doing the little things right,” said Rockets GM David Michaud.
The Rockets didn’t do enough right last weekend, as the Chiefs who took three of a possible four points off the Rockets at the Oval.
After a 5-1 win by the Chiefs on Saturday, the clubs battled to a wild 6-6 draw on Sunday afternoon.
Lucas Cullen spotted the Rockets to a 6-5 edge with just 1:43 remaining, but the lead was short-lived as the Chiefs connected on a power play with 67 seconds left to earn the draw.
“Walking away with the single point wasn’t ideal,” said Michaud. “Things are getting really tight at the top of the standings and when you have a lead late in the game we have to protect it, hopefully we will learn from this and be better for it the next time we are in this position.”
