For the third year in a row, the Vernon Flyers are battling the Checkers Whalers for a B Division berth in the B.C. Ball Hockey Championships, which go July 20-22 in Vancouver.
After losing to the Flyers two years in a row, the Whalers are up for revenge after finishing the North Okanagan Ball Hockey League regular season at 13-0-1, outscoring their opponents 104-42.
The Vernon Kings and Vernon Predators will go head-to-head for a C provincial berth.
Both series are best-of-five sets at Wesbild Centre, with ball drops at 7 and 8 p.m. Game 1 for both series goes tonight, with the next tilts set for Saturday. Other game days are Wednesday, July 11; Saturday, July 14; and Tuesday, July 17.
The Whale are led offensively by teen heart throb James Dobrowolski, who amassed 48 points (26 goals, 22 assists) in 11 regular-season games. He is currently attending the grand opening of FBPE Whale preservation in Cabo San Lucas.
Adding to the attack are Vernon Viper grads Dave Robinson (16-22-38), Bryce Kakoske (10-18-28) and Adam Thompson, along with shot-blocking specialist Kris Glinsbockel.
The Flyers are led Chris Glenn, who tallied 17 goals in just six league games, and Logan Massie (10-17-27).
The Whale and Flyers will also compete at Western Canadians, July 27-29, in Kelowna.
