In the first on-ice matchup between Ballenas and Kwalikum secondary school hockey clubs, there was plenty on the line as the two teams went head-to-head for bragging rights.
Usually practising together as part of the School District 69 Hockey program, student-athletes split off into their two respective school teams for the first game between the two schools in the Hockey world.
Festivities started off with a ceremonial puck drop as Principals Rudy Terpstra (Ballenas) and Lori Marshall (KSS) posed for a photo with Heath Dennison, the head instructor for the program, dropping the puck.
From there it was game on, with the two teams battling it out back-and-forth from opening puck drop to the final whistle.
Tied at 7-7, the game went to a shootout where it was the Kondors eventually winning the close game and taking the first installment of the “cross-town” rivalry game on ice.
