The Terrace Kermode Bantam Reps are sitting at 2-0 heading into their third game today at the Tier 3 provincial championships at the Port Hardy Civic Arena.
The Kermodes will face off against South Okanagan at noon today and are looking for a repeat of their first two wins of the tournament. Terrace slammed Squamish 10-0 in the tournament opener and in a penalty-filled game two yesterday came back to score six goals in the last half of the third period to take Kerry Park 8-6.
Kerry Park jumped out to a 2-0 lead and held the lead until halfway through the 2nd period before they made it 3-0.
Terrace’s Terrence O’Brien scored assisted by Mason Richey to make it 3-1 and finally get on the board, but Kerry Park came back and made it 4-1.
Next, Richey scored assisted by Reid Lindsay putting the score at 4-2.
A five-minute power play for Kerry Park resulted in two more goals and giving them a four goal lead after the second.
But then Terrace came back. Halfway through the third period Richey scored to make it 6-3.
And then Greg Kennedy scored with a slap shot from the point to make it 6-4.
Over the next three minutes, Richey scored three to pull Terrace ahead 7-6.
To insure the win Quinn Mulder popped one in the net in the final seconds of the game.
Terrace will now play South Okanagan at noon today.
And the Terrace Kermode Midget Reps are in Dawson Creek fighting for the Tier 3 Midget provincial championship.
The Kermodes lost a heartbreaker of a first game to Sooke March 15.
From BC Hockey: Both teams came out ready to play, first period was a hard hitting high fast paced, end to end hockey.
Terrace’s Sam Reinbolt opened the scoring at 12:25, and Sooke answered with goal scored by Jack Kendall at 8:13.
The second started with the same quick pace as the first, with Sooke’s Dexter Kennedy scoring 25 seconds into the period followed up by Sooke’s Jonan Phillip at 16:18 to take 3-1 lead.
Terrace rallied Hunter Johnson to score at 14:28 and again at 3:21 to tie the score 3-3 after two periods.
The third period was end to end with both teams having several breakaways, both team goalies Shawn Parkinson from Sooke and Dion Johnson from Terrace stood on their heads.
There was no scoring until the 1:34 left in the third when Sooke’s Jack Kendall scored on the power play.
Terrace pushed back but could not beat Shawn Parkinson who weathered the storm to preserve Sooke a 4-3 win.
But Terrace got it back yesterday, with a much-needed 7-2 win against Cranbrook.
Terrace came out flying, scoring one in the first to take a 1-0 lead into the second where they scored again at 17:35.
Cranbrook cut the lead in half with a goal at 16:35, but Terrace continued with pressure scoring four unanswered in the second to take a 6-1 lead into the third.
The teams traded goals in the third with Terrace getting their needed win 7-2.
The Midgets now play South Okanagan this afternoon at 2:30.
