Tage Kineshanko pulled the hat trick as the Lumby Stars stopped the Kelowna Green Steelers 6-1 in Sunday’s final of the Monashee Bantam Hockey Classic.
The Stars, who carry sponsorship from Green Velvet Lawn Care and Great West Equipment, got singles from Conner Seehaver, Tye Krause and Matt Yaremcio. Peter Romailler supplied three assists in support of Parker Stadnyk.
Seehaver rang up 3+2 as Lumby ambushed the Penticton Vees 7-2 in the semifinal. Clarke, Kineshanko, Rory Campbell and Linden Catt added singles.
The Stars toppled the Vancouver Thunderbirds 9-1, edged the Kamloops Kapitals 5-4 and mauled Mission 10-2 in preliminary play.
Kineshanko counted 3+2 versus the T-Birds, while Seehaver also fired three goals and singles went to Clarke, Yaremcio and Catt.
Clarke registered the winner against the Kaps, with 10 minutes remaining. Catt (2), Seehaver and Krause completed the offence.
Kineshanko pocketed four goals against Mission with Campbell netting 2+2 and Catt also bagging a deuce.
The DCT Chambers Cougars picked up a much needed point in a 2-2 Bantam draw with Salmon Arm Audits & Safety Services Sunday.
The Cougars got a stellar 30 minutes of shutout goaltending from Arianna Kositsin, but could not solve the Salmon Arm goalie until early in the third when Cam Hyatt blazed through the neutral zone, picked up a great one touch pass from Zach Manthorne, split the dee, and buried a strong wrister glove side.
Salmon Arm leveled shortly after and then went up late in the third. Dylan Wapple provided the late heroics, securing the Cougar tie with 28 seconds left.
The 1-3-1 Cougar dee core, led by Jackson Sampert and Aiden Trottier, also played a critical role, winning puck battles all over.
The Lumby Stars, sponsored by Bannister GM and Irly Bird Building Centres, blasted the host Winfield Bruins 10-2 in Pee Wee Super League play.
Quintin O’Neill and Bryden Murray both supplied hat tricks, while Ryder Quibell added a pair and singles came from Jace Catt and Zachary Young. Assists were supplied by Mia Maltman and Kolby English. Great defensive play was turned in by Galileo Ingram, who took home the hard hat.
The Stars Pee Wee Monashee Classic home tournament starts Saturday with Lumby facing the Kelowna Predators Saturday at 6:45 a.m. and then meeting the Kamloops Raiders at 1:05 p.m.
The Stars battle the Williams Lake Rubber Ducks Sunday at 8:35 a.m.to finish preliminary play.
The semifinals go at 1:20 and 2:55 p.m. with the final slated for 4:30.
