Bantam Vipers lose in OT at KIBIHT

Kaden Reinders scored at 1:14 of overtime as the Grande Prairie Storm clipped the Vernon Sun Valley Source For Sports Vipers 6-5 Wednesday in the 49th Kamloops International Bantam Ice Hockey Tournament.

Connor Elliott of the Vipers forced the extra period with a snipe at 1:55 of the third period, assists going to Colby Feist and Steel Quiring.

Feist finished with two goals, while Jacob Boden and Zachary Funk added singles in front of Kobe Grant at Memorial Arena.

Sheldon Kwiatowski bagged a deuce for Grande Prairie, who led 2-0 after 20 minutes.

The Vipers took on the Chilliwack Bruins Thursday night and meet the Semiahmoo Ravens of White Rock today at 7 a.m. at Brocklehurst Arena.

Vernon is one of 25 teams in the Tier 1 Randy Lindros Division. The final goes New Year’s Day at  1 p.m. at the McArthur Island Sports Centre Olympic rink.

All teams are invited to take in the Western League game Saturday between the host Blazers and the Victoria Royals. Tournament all-star teams will be announced at the tilt.

Meanwhile, the Okanagan Rockets were 0-2 at the 39th Mac’s Midget Tournament in Calgary.

The Rockets bowed 5-3 to the Saskatoon Contacts Wednesday at Max Bell Arena after losing 4-2 to the unbeaten Calgary Royals Tuesday at the Father David Bauer Arena.

Rayman Bassi and Max Kryski scored for the Rockets versus Saskatoon with Owen Patrick making 33 saves.

Wyatt Head and Jeffrey Karpowich converted against the Royals. Former Vernon Junior A Viper goalie Cole Demers recorded 34 stops.

National U18 teams from Hungary and Austria, along with the New York Islanders, are also entered. The final goes Sunday, 4 p.m. at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
