Barriere Secondary athletics update for January 2018

Barriere Secondary Senior Boys Basketball Team are currently ranked seventh in the province. The boys are led by Tyler Schilling and Cameron Kerslake. The team placed second in the Agassiz tournament, first in the Merritt tournament, and third at the Fulton Cup. The boys have a busy January playing in Valleyview, St. John's and then they will be hosting the Cougar Classic on Friday, Feb. 2, and 3. The boys are coached by Barriere Alumni Dusty Pawloff and Nick McInnes.

The team placed second in the Agassiz tournament, first in the Merritt tournament, and third at the Fulton Cup. The boys have a busy January playing in Valleyview, St. John’s and then they will be hosting the Cougar Classic on Friday, Feb. 2, and 3. The boys are coached by Barriere Alumni Dusty Pawloff and Nick McInnes.

“We are looking forward to moving towards Okanagans and Provincials,” says Barriere Secondary Athletic Director Brian Tommasini.

Barriere Secondary’s grade 8 girls have had a nice start to their high school career with close games against Brock and St. Ann’s. The girls are being coached by Ms. Trimble.

The Junior Boys have also had a very nice start to their season finishing fourth in their Cougar Classic. Barriere’s Ty Hartman won tournament MVP. The boys have been in close battles losing games against Brock in overtime and SKSS in double overtime. The boys have a busy January with tournaments starting Jan. 19/20 (St. Ann’s), Jan. 26/27(Ashcroft), and Feb. 2/3 (Brock). A reminder that practices are Monday and Wednesday 5-7p.m., and games are every Thursday in the month of January. A big thanks to Ian Mitchell who is working hard to develop the team and make a push towards Okanagans.

The Senior Girls placed fourth in their opening tournament in Agassiz. The girls also hosted their Cougar Classic last weekend, finishing in third place to Khalsa in first and Hope taking the second spot. MVPs went to Barriere’s Taylynn Eustache and Meghan Balatti. The girls will be hosting again next Monday, Jan. 22. The girls have a very busy January with tournaments on Jan. 19/20 (Princeton), Jan. 26/27 (Valleyview), and Feb. 2/3 (Charles Bloom). A big thank you to Tiffany Bowser whois doing a wonderful job with the volleyball and basketball programs.
