This season the Golden Secondary School junior basketball team had the opportunity to play outside of their region, including tournaments in Airdrie, Lumby and Kamloops.
They also attended local tournaments in the Kootenay region.
Despite their short bench and players new to the game, the team worked hard and persevered to compete against highly ranked teams in both British Columbia and Alberta.
The boys finished off their successful season with a trip to Fernie on March 1-2, where they took part in the East Kootenay Championships.
After winning their first game and making it to the semi-finals, they lost a nail-biter to Invermere in overtime.
The team then went on to beat Selkirk by 21 points and placed third in the tournament.
The team wanted to thank the many members of the community that contributed to their success.
To their coaches Mike Dhami and Len Oszust, for their many hours of hard work running practices, taking the team to tournaments and putting up with their shenanigans.
To Roberta Kohalyk and Becky Rousseau for always having a smile on their faces, even when dealing with the paperwork and budgeting that comes with the territory of high school sports.
Last, but definitely not least, to Overwaitea Foods for donating an endless supply of water bottles, to both the junior and senior boys team.
The Golden senior boys team had a stellar season.
They finished with 14 wins and only two defeats.
They worked hard each and every game and finished first in the East Kootenays and second overall in the Kootenays, losing in finals to L.V. Rogers Senior Secondary School out of Nelson.
The team would like to thank Greg Wayne, Len Oszust and Jim deBolbec for all their help because without them they would not have ever had a season.
The team is looking forward to winning it all next season.
