Robert Bateman Timberwolves quarterback Ty Martens is heading to the University of the Windsor in the fall.
The school made the announcement on social media on Tuesday night, confirming that the pivot will join the Lancers later this year.
SIGNED! QB Ty Martens has been accepted into school and has signed with @UWLancerFB! Ty was the 2019 AA all-province QB, 2019 team MVP, 2018 conference all-star at DB. Congrats Ty!

Martens helped lead the Timberwolves to a 2-2 record in AA regular season play in 2019, but the team then bowed out in the quarter-finals. He threw for 392 yards and four touchdowns in 2019 and was also a threat on the ground, leading Bateman with 263 yards rushing and five touchdowns. He was named the AA’s all-province quarterback and the team’s most valuable player.
But it wasn’t only on the offensive side of the ball that Martens shined during his time with the Timberwolves. He was tied for third on the team in tackles this season with 17 and also grabbed one interception playing as a defensive back.
In 2018 he was the backup quarterback behind Logan McDonald and played more on the defensive side of the ball with nine tackles and one interception in three regular season games. Martens was named a conference all-star at defensive back that year, and was an important part of that 2018 Bateman team that advanced to the AA provincial final.

Martens was also a strong basketball player for Bateman during his time in the Timberwolves colours.
The Windsor Lancers finished 2019 with record of 1-7 and failed to advance to the playoffs. The last time the club qualified for the postseason was the 2014 season.
Windsor is scheduled to open the Ontario University Athletics regular season on Aug. 30 when they host the Ottawa Gee Gees.
