Bulldogs hockey is back in Port Alberni.

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs are firming up their roster for the 2018-19 BCHL season with the team’s main training camp, starting today (Monday, Aug. 20) at Weyerhaeuser Arena.

This year’s camp will see 44 returning, committed and prospective Bulldogs players face off over four days of practices and scrimmages, culminating with the annual Red vs. White game at 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 23. At that point, the initial round of player releases will occur and the team will turn their focus to their five-game exhibition schedule, which begins at Weyerhaeuser on Friday, August 24 with a visit from the Powell River Kings.

“We’re excited for what we anticipate being a highly competitive four-day camp,” said Bulldogs head coach Matt Hughes. “We feel we have an excellent returning group of players and we’re very pleased with the early results of our recruiting efforts, so our veterans should be pushed hard by the younger guys.

“It’s an exciting time of year and we’re eager to get started.”

Bulldogs fans are invited to attend all on-ice sessions this week. Entry to the Red vs. White game on Thursday is by donation, with all proceeds going to charity.

The Bulldogs hosted their summer development camp last week, with more than 60 kids joining in.
