Bauer Hockey Incorporated and Hockey Canada announced on June 13 that 100 Mile House & District Minor Hockey Association (100MHA) will be one of the 40 minor hockey associations hosting The First Shift, a new learn-to-play hockey program.
Boys and girls aged six to 10 who have never played hockey will get to enroll in the six-week program and get outfitted head-to-toe in Bauer hockey equipment that they get to keep.
Bauer Hockey and Hockey Canada have partnered to launch this new national program designed to expand the sport by including families in a convenient and affordable way. Price of enrolment and equipment will be $199.
100MHA signed up for the program after being informed by the Prince George Minor Hockey Association, which previously hosted the program.
100MHA president Kristy Anderson says she is looking forward to exposing fresh eyes to the sport.
“It’s definitely going to be a good way to get some new kids into hockey. This program is specifically for children who have never played hockey officially before.
“After the program has finished, hopefully some of them will want to join minor hockey.”
Anderson says she hopes children will take advantage of the program and sign up soon.
Thirty participants can sign up for the 100 Mile House program.
A welcoming event will take place at the Lion’s Den Meeting Room at the South Cariboo Rec. Centre on Oct. 17.
