BC Lions Football Club players Shawn Gore and Rolly Lumbala are visiting Comox Valley schools this week in support of the club’s Be More Than A Bystander and FortisBC Energy Champions programs.

On Tuesday, Feb. 2 Gore and Lumbala will present Be More Than A Bystander at Highland Secondary at 1 p.m.

On Wednesday, Feb. 3 the duo will present Be More Than A Bystander at G.P. Vanier Secondary at 9 a.m. and again at Mark R. Isfeld Senior Secondary at 12 p.m. The local stops are part of a B.C.-wide tour.

Now entering its sixth year, the FortisBC Energy Champions program is designed for children in kindergarten through Grade 7, emphasizing the importance of environmental responsibility and being an ‘Energy Champion’.

Last year, 75 elementary schools throughout British Columbia and more than 22,000 students received an inspiring message to play an active role in reducing their environmental footprint.

Be More Than a Bystander has been one of the club’s most successful and noteworthy community endeavours. It’s presented in partnership with the Ending Violence AssociationBC Ministry of Children and Family Development, Encana Corporation and is supported by the BC Federation of Labour.

Be More Than a Bystander aims to raise awareness about the impact of violence against women and attempts to break the silence surrounding such violence by providing tools, language and practical ideas about how to be more than a bystander, how to speak up and how to communicate that violence and abuse towards girls and women is not acceptable.
