Just call them the Cardiac Kids—Bulldogs head coach Kevin Willison does.
The Alberni Valley Bulldogs were down 4-2 with less than two minutes left in Game 4 of their B.C. Hockey League playoff series with Nanaimo Clippers when Chris Schutz scored unassisted at 18:23 of the third period. Schutz scored again 11 seconds later on a pass from Mitch Makin to tie the game and send it into sudden death overtime.
Eric Margo scored with 13 seconds left in the 20-minute overtime period to give the Bulldogs the win.
“It looked bleak there for us in the third period, but with the Cardiac Kids, they seem to come through,” Willison said following the game.
“Goals are scored quick in this league if you’re not prepared and we were lucky enough to get two breaks there.”
Makin scored the Bulldogs’ other goals and also assisted on Margo’s goal for a four-point night for the Bulldogs’ team captain.
Bulldogs’ goaltender Billy Christopoulos made 43 saves in the game.
Chase Gaudreault left the game partway through the overtime period after taking a check to the face and losing his two front teeth.
The teams take a break on Sunday and head back to Frank Crane Arena for Game 5 on Monday, March 9.
