BCHL Showcase Festival coming to Penticton

BCHL Showcase Festival coming to Penticton

The B.C. Hockey League's annual Showcase Festival is coming to town Friday and Saturday

After four seasons in the B.C. Hockey League Penticton Vees captain David Silye is no stranger to the league’s annual Showcase Festival.

Although the 20-year-old from Arnprior, Ont. missed the first event in his inaugural season with the Nanaimo Clippers he more than made up for it the next two, including his first year as a Vee.

Showcase is an event each year to give National Hockey League and college scouts and opportunity to see rising stars in one location.

It was Silye’s second time that the stars fell into place and he landed a spot on the roster at Clarkson University.

“It’s also only an hour-and-a-half to two hours away from my hometown, so that’s nice,” said Silye. “When I got there, the coaching staff was super friendly and welcoming. It was a great experience overall.”

Showcase kicked off Oct. 2 at the Chilliwack Coliseum for the first of two days of hockey there and transitions to the South Okanagan Events Centre for the final two days Friday and Saturday, Oct. 4 and 5.

The Vees and Vernon Vipers renew their longstanding rivalry Friday at 7 p.m. and then the Vees take on the Wenatchee Wild Saturday at 7 p.m.

Penticton is undefeated in their first eight games of the season and are number one in the national rankings.

Eight teams will play nine games at the South Okanagan Events Centre in the two days.

The Penticton event includes a “hockey house” where fans, parents and kids will be able to participate in fun and interactive activities.

The BCHL is also hosting a hockey panel featuring former NHL players and current and past BCHL dads Mike Richter, Doug Weight and Dixon Ward.
