The CBC Bearcats teams return to action in January.

The wins haven’t occurred too frequently for the Columbia Bible College Bearcats basketball and volleyball teams in the first half of the PacWest season, but all four clubs still have plenty of time to turn their respective seasons around.

The Bearcats women’s volleyball team has tasted the most success, posting three wins in 12 games. The women defeated the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades on Oct. 20, took down the Camosun College Chargers in Victoria on Oct. 29, and then closed off the 2016 calendar with a win over the College of the Rockies Avalanche on Nov. 25.

The women had big first-half performances from Karah Kostamo (fourth in blocks), Becky Garner (12th in kills) and Alexa Eger (player of the week in week five).

The men’s volleyball team posted a record of zero wins and 12 losses in the first half, with narrow 3-2 losses to the Douglas College Royals on Oct. 14 and to the Capilano University Blues on Nov. 12.

CBC’s Ben Smith had a strong first half, finishing 12th overall in total offence, including finishing in the top 15 in both kills and aces.

The volleyball teams next host the Blues on Jan. 6, and then take on the Blues in North Vancouver on Jan. 7.

The Bearcats men’s and women’s basketball teams have yet to register a victory, with both clubs sporting records of zero wins and six losses in PacWest regular season action.

The closest the men got to a win was a seven-point loss to the Royals on Nov. 12.

For the women, a 15-point loss to the Langara College Falcons was the closest they got to tasting victory.

Bearcats men’s team players Jackson Strother and Jesse Stewart were ranked fifth and sixth respectively in the league in rebounds, with guard Billy Bosch fourth in the PacWest in assists.

The basketball teams return to action on Jan. 5, when they host the Royals. The teams then host the Blues on Jan. 7.
