Mt. Boucherie drubs Mission, KSS and Rutland both lose in B.C. high school football

The Mt. Boucherie Bears were big winners in their opening game of the BC high school football season.

The Mt. Boucherie Bears were big winners in their opening game of the BC high school football season.

The Mt. Boucherie Bears will look to go 2-0 to start the B.C. high school football regular season on Friday night at the Apple Bowl.

At 6:30 p.m., the Bears will host the Centennial Centaurs (1-0) in Eastern Conference AAA action.

While the Centaurs opened with a win over WJ Mouat, the Bears were dominant in 42-6 drubbing of Mission to kick off the regular season on Friday night at the Apple Bowl.

Boucherie head coach Mike Godwin was pleased with the final result but said his club could have been better in certain areas.

“Even though we won, the coaches aren’t very pleased with our overall effort. We had a few guys that were outstanding for us, (Nick Kopp, Mark Schuppener, and Hunter Desson) but we also had a few guys really disappoint,” said Godwin. “We played much better against Wenatchee and I think a few of our guys got a little cocky. Centennial will be a much stronger test than Mission I think. We need to get back to basics and focus on fundamentals if we want to compete in our division.”

Taylor Knoll, Ethan Beselt and Jesse Benneke each scored a pair of majors for the Bears who jumped to a 21-0 first quarter lead.

Benneke, who scored on runs of 54 and seven yards, rushed for 108 yards on 11 carries.

Beselt returned an interception 64 yards for a TD. Hunter Desson and Chris Smith also had picks, while Wyatt Fagan and Spencer Lindhold each recovered a fumble. Nick Kopp had seven tackles.

Lord Tweedsmuir 47 KSS Owls 0

The Owls didn’t have much to celebrate Friday in their regular season home opener, as they were shutout by Tweedsmuir.

“It was definitely a learning experience for all of us,” said Owls’ head coach Chris Cartwright. “As a young team we are learning new things everyday.  We are still trying to establish an identity that we can be proud of. We need to understand the work ethic required if we want to be competitors in the AAA Eastern Conference.”

KSS (0-1) will look to regroup this weekend when they travel to the Lower Mainland Saturday afternoon to take on Mission Secondary (0-1).

Fulton 35 RSS Voodoos 28

The Maroons scored a touchdown late in the fourth quarter for the margin of victory.

“Tough loss, good learning experience,” said Voodoos coach Peter McCall. “We played a full game today with a lot of new guys in different positions.
