Beaver Valley Nitehawks ground Golden Rockets

The B.V. Nitehawks defeated the Golden Rockets on Saturday to take sole possession of first place in KIJHL Neil Murdoch Division.

The Beaver Valley Nitehawks remain a point ahead of the Nelson Leafs in the KIJHL Neil Murdoch Division after skating to its fourth straight victory on Saturday at the Hawks Nest.

The Nitehawks defeated the Golden Rockets 3-1 in its only action on the weekend, while the Leafs beat the Spokane Braves 4-1 on Saturday and the Grand Forks Border Bruins 5-3 Friday.

Blake Sidoni netted two points on the night including his team-leading sixth goal of the season, scoring the opening goal at 17:35, and then setting up the winner by Dylan Heppler, who leads the team in points with five goals and nine assists, with 8:53 to play in the period. Nolan Percival also pitched in with two helpers.

The Nitehawks Damon Kramer finished the scoring for the Hawks on the power play at 15:42 of the middle period when he took a pass from Sam Swanson in front and went top shelf on Golden goalie Owen Sikkes.

The Rockets tallied its lone goal of the night on the power play as Stephen Gaugran chipped a rebound over the shoulder of Hawks goalie Josh Breznick.

The Nitehawks outshot the Rockets 43-22 and went 2-for-3 on the power play while Golden was 1-for-8 with the extra man.

Beaver Valley’s next game goes on Friday at the Hawks Nest against Nelson.
