The good news is the BC Junior B Hockey championship squad comes from the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League.
The bad news is it isn’t the Nelson Leafs.
The Beaver Valley Nitehawks rose to the top the provincial hockey scene thanks to a 5-2 victory over the Aldergrove Kodiaks in the final of the Cyclone Taylor Cup.
The Nitehawks will now represent the province, along with the host Abbotsford Pilots, at the Western Canadian Junior B Keystone Cup championship taking place April 17-20 in Abbotsford.
The Nitehawks didn’t win their provincial crown easily.
In the third period, the Kodiaks held a 2-1 lead until, at close to the midway point, Beaver Valley tied the game up at 2-2.
After that, the Nitehawks began to take over.
Three goals in the final six minutes blew the game wide open and secured the win for the KIJHL squad.
Dallas Calvin of the Nitehawks was named the tournament MVP.
