The Vernon AAA track and field club member burst out of the blocks and carried the lead for the first three laps. The current provincial champion was the fastest from B.C. in her age group.

In mid-July, Bennison, a VSS student, won the women’s 14-15  B.C. Athletics 2,000-metre provincial championship race in Kamloops.

Bennison beat a field of 14 with a time of six minutes, 28 seconds, four seconds shy of equalling her personal best. Some races at the championships were moved to the evening because of extreme heat in the afternoon.
