Hannah and Mia Bennison of the Okanagan Athletic Club sparkled in the B.C. cross-country championships Saturday at Beban Park in Nanaimo.

Hannah (16) was running up in the Junior women’s class (18-19) and she was fifth overall and first in Junior Women, in 19 minutes, 26 seconds.

Mia, 13, was second in a 2002/3 girls 3K. The race was combined boys and girls, so Mia was sixth overall, but second girl. Her time was 10:05.

The winning girl was Kendra Lewis, in 9:54.

Mia is in grade 9 at VSS. Mia’s main sport is horse jumping. She started running for enjoyment this year and discovered quite quickly that she really enjoys it.

The Bennison girls are coached by Malindi Elmore and Nathan Reiter of Okanagan Athletics Club.

As a result of her performance in this race, Hannah will be running for the Junior women’s B.C. team in the nationals in Ontario next month.
