100 Mile House rower Gabe Bergen will race at the Samsung World Rowing Cup in Lucerne, Switzerland, July 8-10 as a member of Rowing Canada Aviron Men’s 8+ (eight) team.

He will join Brian Price (Belleville, Ont.), Will Crothers (Kingston, Ont.), Rob Gibson (Kingston), Doug Csima (Oakville, Ont.), Jerry Brown (Victoria), Conlin McCabe (Brockville, Ont.), Andrew Byrnes (Toronto, Ont.) and Derek O’Farrell (Unionville, Ont.) to compete in this third World Cup of the season.

This will be only the first World Cup competition of the year for all Canadian teams, but it’s an important one, as they prepare for the World Rowing Championships in Bled, Slovania, slated for late August. It is also this year’s Olympic qualifier.

“After a thorough selection process, we are looking forward to some exciting racing this summer,” says Peter Cookson, Rowing Canada Aviron high performance director.

“This is a strong team, with a lot of international experience.”
