Gerson Betman can pretty much shine at any position on a soccer pitch. The ultra-talented Brazilian took a turn in net Monday night and earned the Sleeman’s Man of the Match, boosting Bosman Accounting past RPM Auto of Kelowna 5-2 at MacDonald Park.
RPM started furious and aggressive, but two quick Bosman goals put the Capri Insurance Men’s 45+ Soccer League game in a different perspective.
Dave Howes intercepted an RPM attack and went for an 80-yard run past four defenders, sending a shot top right corner. Only a few minutes later, left winger Barry MacKay fed Erick Burnet, who buried a high shot over the keeper.
RPM refused to surrender and applied huge pressure before the accountants registered an own goal.
Midway through the opening 45, midfielder Rolf Hirschkorn gave a nice cross to right fullback Glenn Verdurmen, who strolled down the flank and hit Howes for a beautiful header top shelf. Verdurmen then assisted on Mike Grace’s second snipe of the season.
Bosman stayed calm in possession but gave away another goal early in the final half. In the 70th minute, it was striker John Matejica completing the Bosman offence with a nice chip over the keeper.
The back line of Randy Driediger, Kilmer Hagen, Dan Rogers and Dan Pawsey was very solid in front of Betman, who posted a number of spectacular saves.
Turn-Key Controls Ogopogos ambushed the injury-riddled Mind Smart United 8-0 at Parkinson Rec #9 Field in Kelowna.
Game MVP Mark Wasylyk started off in beast mode and recorded a hat trick within the first 30 minutes. Crafty Clint Dickinson scored twice, both on gorgeous shots from just inside the 16. Wasylyk added a fourth goal in the second half.
Singles were supplied by Bryan Schenker and Duane Dennis. Schenker and Dennis also came up with two assists each along with rookie midfielder Jeff Nice. Parm Kler and Henry Czerwonka sparkled, winning the battle for numerous balls.
The Okanagan Spring Brewery Camels forfeited to Brown Benefits due to a shortage of players.
Meanwhile, Kal Tire, looking to stop a long losing skid dating back to last season, brushed back Westside 3-2 in 55+ play Thursday night at MacDonald Park.
Man of the Match Rob Hulstein got the Tiremen on the board with a corker off a great pass out of the corner from Roger Irving.
Westside replied with two quick goals, one off a corner which was headed over the outstretched fingertips of Pete (The Heat) Richter.
The Tiremen answered with their best half in a couple years. Denis Chabot chased down a through ball from Hulstein and blew it by the Westside keeper to level the score.
With 15 minutes left, winger Gary Dill scooped up a long ball from Richter, blasted past one defender and dished off to Hulstein, who again laid out a sweet pass to Ron Krause, who just got back from winning a silver medal in the World Masters Games in New Zealand. Krause wowed the crowd, going inside out around the defender and blasting home the winner.
Centre backs Ted Sheehan and Jim McEwen showed why being 60 is just a number as they outhustled the Westside attackers all night.
