The final roller derby event for the Comox Valley season is Saturday, June 10. The Brick House Betties and Stone Cold Stellas junior team will return to the track after both won exciting games at their last doubleheader, April 29.
The Stellas and Betties enjoyed introducing a new audience at the 19 Wing Comox base to the dynamic sport at that event, and hope those new fans come to watch and cheer again. The teams will host this next doubleheader, called That 70s Bout, at the Comox Valley Sports Centre in Courtenay. In the first game of the night, the Stellas will take on Salt Spring Island’s The Tempest, who are playing their first game ever. These junior derby teams are comprised of skaters 12-18 years. They are quick, agile, and a lot of fun to watch.
The Betties will compete against Powell River’s Pow!Town Brawl Stars in the second game. The two teams have worked and played together for about five years, so it will be a good match-up as the Betties dish out the hits 70s-style.
Bring the whole family to a fun night at the roller derby, a competitive contact sport played on wheels. Dress up 70s theme and join in the spectator contest at half-time. Enjoy the games, merchandise tables, raffle, and concession.
Doors open at 5 p.m. Entrance is $10 cash for adults and $5 for youth. Free admission for those under 10.
The first game starts at 5:45 p.m. The second is at 8 p.m.
