Big amateur fight card for Vernon

A total of 90 boxers will be bobbing and weaving in a B.C. vs Alberta amateur showdown which also features cards Saturday at 1 and 7 p.m.

“This could be one of the biggest boxing events in years,” said Tony Stamboulieh, head coach of Counter Punch Boxing Club and President of Boxing B.C. Tony Stamboulieh.

Male and female boxers 11 and up, along with Canadian champions, are confirmed. Both Vernon boxing clubs will be showcasing their talents.

Boxing B.C. is governed by Boxing Canada and the International Amateur Boxing Association. All coaches working within Boxing B.C. are NCCP qualified.

“Amateur boxing is an Olympic sport that is highly regulated with an emphasis on safety first for the boxers,” said Stamboulieh. “That is the route for all Olympic dreams in amateur boxing. It is also an excellent way for people of all ages to stay in shape. Families can do it together. It is fun, healthy and it is ‘The Noble Art of self-defence.’”
