Dan Stoelwinder of Kamloops came away with a huge catch at the Lac la Hache Father’s Day Fishing Derby on June 18-19.
The event had some fantastic weather, which led to a whopping turnout of more than 300 participants.
The big winner was Stoelwinder with a 21 lb. 9 oz char, which he caught at 12:37 p.m. on June 18. This is the third consecutive year he has taken first prize.
“It went quite well. The weather was really good for us this year and the fish came in constantly throughout the weekend,” Lac la Hache Fishing Derby Society (LLHFDS) member Nancy Sootheran says.
Those who caught the largest fish walked away with cash prizes, while additional prizes were given out via raffle or hidden catch. A silent auction was also held for 10 items including a Samsung Tablet donated by TD Bank.
A hamburger and hotdog concession was available on Sunday to help generate funds that will be donated to community groups in Williams Lake, Lac la Hache and 100 Mile House.
Groups, which are requesting funds, submitted a letter at the fishing derby describing themselves and what any funds received would be used for. The LLHFDS will continue to take letters until August and will decide on who will receive the funds in September.
