Big innings help Langley top Redlegs

Langley Junior Blaze push win streak to four games after sweeping Coquitlam

The Langley Junior Blaze showed their ability to win both the close game and a one-sided affair.

Hosting the Coquitlam Junior Redlegs on Saturday at McLeod Athletic Park, Langley pushed their win streak to four games after prevailing 8-7 in game one and 11-1 in game two.

The sweep improves the Blaze to 19-10 in the BC Junior Premier Baseball League.

Game one required a massive inning from Langley as the Redlegs put up three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to take a 7-1 lead. But the Blaze bats woke up with a six-run sixth inning.

The big blow was a bases-clearing triple from Brendan Winning which tied the score and one batter later, Terrell Roger scored Winning from third base with an RBI single.

Coquitlam would put the tying run on third base but could not cash him in.

Samson Beck earned the win, allowing one unearned run over three innings with three strikeouts.

Connor Chorpita, Nick Holdershaw and Ryan Beitel each had one RBI.

Rogers earned the win in game two after allowing one run on just two hits with six strikeouts over five innings.

The Blaze again used a big inning in the victory, scoring six times in the fifth to break open a 2-1 game.

Alex Wright (three RBIs) and Back (two RBIs) led the offence while Brandon Nicoll, Kiesten Evans, Chorpita and Winning had an RBI apiece.

Up next for Langley is a home game on June 21 against the first-place White Rock Junior Tritons at McLeod Athletic Park. Game time is 6:30 p.m.
