Big White Racers brought home their share of hardware from the Okanagan Zone ski races last weekend at Apex Mountain.
Athletes from Big White, Apex, Silver Star, Revelstoke, Sun Peaks, Prince George and Hemlock race clubs competed in the U12, U14 and U16 divisions in two days of slalom racing.
Saturday saw overcast days with light snow, while Sunday was a perfect bluebird day making for some very competitive racing.
Medal results for Big White Racers were:
• U16 girls—Brooke Lukinuk won a gold and silver medal; Olivia Baldassare captured two silvers.
• U16 boys—Zane Torres, two bronze medals
• U12 boys—Adam Fricska , gold
The following are top-10 finishes by local skiers:
Rounding out the awards ceremonies with some Top 10 weekend finishes were;
• U16 girls— Baldassare and Lukinuk each with fourth place finishes; Gillian Callaghan, sixth and eighth.
• U16 boys—Zane Torres, fourth
• U14 girls—Hallie Jenkins, seventh and eighth; Jaxon Slaney, ninth.
• U14 boys—Anthony Kurkjian, ninth; Zander Torres, ninth.
• U12 girls— Jenelle Giebelhaus, two fourth-place finishes and a seventh; Jennifer Pilon, ninth; Zoe Torres, sixth and 10th; and Anna DeWynter, sixth.
• U12 boys—Adam Fricska, fifth
This weekend, the Big White Racers are at Red Mountain for the U16 provincial competition.
The next big event is this weekend Jan 15-18 at Red Mt with the U16 provincials races. Hopefuls will have their eye on qualifying for the Canada Winter Games and Team B.C. in the alpine events.
