Big win for the Ghostriders against Creston Valley Thundercats

The Ghostriders played a rare Thursday night game on Dec. 17, against the Creston Valley Thundercats. Both teams came ready to battle, as the two teams are tied for second place in the Eddie Mountain division in this week’s KIJHL standings.

Creston was on the scoreboard first, with a power play goal in the first 10 minutes of the game. But the Ghostriders quickly tied it, with a goal scored by Justin Peers and assisted by Zach Beefus and Ty Carron.

The Ghostriders played catch up until the second period. They were down 4-2, quickly caught up, and then scored three goals in the third period while blocking all of the Thundercats’ shots on net. The end score was 7-4 in favour of the home team.

The game was filled with angst, with both teams battling hard. There were five penalties in the first period alone, including a 10-minute misconduct against Zach Beefus and two unsportsmanlike penalties against the Ghostriders. The teams were evenly matched, making for a highly entertaining game. The Ghostriders were able to rely on their endurance, and in the end, it was their ability to wear out the other team that secured them the win.

Coach Craig Mohr said he was happy with the result of the game and gave credit to the team. The roster played hard, making up for some noticeable injured players, including captain Cole Keebler.

The Ghostrides face the Beaver Valley Nighthawks at the Fernie Memorial Arena on Saturday. Game time is 7:30 p.m,. and follow The Free Press on Twitter for live updates of the game.
