Bisla still champ after Clash at Cascades

The latest boxing event in Langley featured seven bouts.

Buneet Bisla showed he was the champ with a win at the 45th Clash at the Cascades boxing event Jan. 27.

Bisla, of Bisla Boxing, is the holder of the BC Light Heavyweight title, but he was considered an underdog against challenger Sam Moses of Vancouver’s Sugar Rays gym.

But in the first round, Bisla dropped Moses to the mat with a perfect combination, said Clash organizer Dave Allison.

The first round was one-sided, but the remainder of the five-round bout was close and competitive, and led to a split decision by the judges.

Bisla got the nod and retains his championship title.

The match was one of seven bouts that took place at the Cascades Casino.

In a four-round Golden Gloves match, WBC Canadian champion Francis Codilla of Vancouver’s Contenders stopped Kyle Banks of Kelowna’s Madkatz Boxing Club in the fourth round in a lightweight matchup.

Middleweight Cody Robertson of Iberra’s Boxing fought a tough rematch against Marcus Davies of the Sunshine Coast. The first fight had gone to Davies in a split decision, and hte rematch ended in a draw.

Nic Schufletoski of the Kamloops Boxing Academy took on Leaf Carnegie of Madkatz Boxing in a Junior Golden Gloves fight, with Schufletoski winning the decision after three rounds.

The next Clash at the Cascades is scheduled for March 10, and will feature local boxer Sarah Pucek fighting Maquita Lee of San Francisco for the North American Featherweight Championship.

Pucek holds both Canadian and Commonwealth championships.
