Two brothers from Surrey are dominating the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), each winning the past two B.C. events in their respective age groups.
At the MJT Ford Series in Chilliwack April 28-29, Justin Bjornson, 11, had the low round on each of the two days of the tournament, shooting 73-76 for a five-over-par 149 total, eight strokes ahead the runner-up in the Peewee Boys group.
Bailey Bjornson, 13, was three strokes off the pace after a first-round 74, but fired a 71 in the second round for a one-over-par 145 total and a one-stroke victory in the Bantam Boys (13-14).
Angela Arora, 12, and Lauren Kim, 11, of Surrey were tied for second in the U15 girls category with two-day scores of 160, eight strokes off the lead. Kim had the lead after the first round with a score of 76, and then scored an 84 on the second day. Arora shot rounds of 79-81.
A week later at the MJT Lindsay Kenney Classic in Langley, Justin was the top golfer in the Peewee category, winning by 10 strokes. He shot rounds of 71-72 for a one-under-par total of 143.
Bailey was the Bantam champion with a four-under total of 140 (70-70), four strokes ahead of the runner-up. Susan Xaio, 15, of Surrey was the winner in the 15-18 Girls group. Her four-under-par score of 71-69 was eight strokes better than runner-up Kate Choi, also of Surrey. Choi, 17, had a score of 74-74-148.
