Black and Gold combine for five wins in hockey weekend at Shawnigan

Shawnigan Black won three games and Shawnigan Gold split their four contests as Canadian Sports School Hockey League midget varsity action came to Shawnigan Lake School earlier this month.

Shawnigan Black opened the weekend with a 10-4 win over Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy on Friday. James Petropoulous and Dillon Johnson both had hat tricks in the win, while Caleb Parkhouse had two goals and an assist and Chris Norton added a goal and two helpers. Cody Shepheard scored once, Ryan Novecosky chipped in four assists, Brett Roloson had three helpers, Grady Birk and Kaleb McHugh had two apiece, and Nathan Goliath and Kabore Dunn each had one assist. Goalie Dalan Marleau finished with 23 saves.

Facing Coeur d’Alene again on Saturday, Shawnigan Black won 5-0. McHugh, Norton and Ethan Hersant each had a goal and an assist, and Petropoulous and Ryan Taylor-Kuipers also scored. Campbell Arnold made 25 saves for the shutout.

Shawnigan Black finished the weekend with a 3-2 overtime win over Pursuit of Excellence on Sunday. Roloson scored the winning goal on an assist from Taylor-Kuipers 54 seconds into overtime. Petropoulous and Norton also scored and Marleau made 36 saves.

Shawnigan Gold opened the weekend with a 5-1 loss to Pursuit on Friday. Riley Billy scored the lone goal on assists by Benjamin Rose and Parkhouse, while Carl Swanson stood tall with 50 saves.

The team improved with a 4-3 win over Coeur d’Alene on Saturday morning, getting two goals from Billy and one from Paul Guatto, while Swanson made another 48 saves.

Later on Saturday, Shawnigan Gold lost 7-1 to Pursuit. Parkhouse had the team’s lone goal, and Daniel Enge made 41 saves.

The team finished the weekend with a 5-4 win over Coeur d’Alene. Parkhouse compiled two goals and an assist,and Billy, Josh Trozzo, and Corbin Hanson each had a goal and an assist. Enge earned the win with 26 saves.

The two Shawnigan squads will square off at Charlie Purdey Arena on Nov. 26 at 3 p.m.
