Former Chilliwack Bruins general manager Darrell May will be fitted for a second Stanley Cup ring after watching his Chicago Blackhawks down the Boston Bruins in game six of the Stanley Cup finals Monday night.

May watched the game from the comfort of his living room couch, joined by wife Sharmaine.

Like every other Blackhawk supporter, they experienced a roller coaster of emotion. The team trailed 2-1 with less than two minutes remaining, and it looked like the series was heading back to Chicago for game seven.

Instead, Bryan Bickell tied the game at 18:44.

Seventeen seconds later, Dave Bolland put the Hawks ahead, wrapping up the team’s second championship in four years.

“The last few minutes of that game are still sinking in,” May said Tuesday morning. “The emotions were almost indescribable, and the funny thing is, when we tied it, my first thought was there’s still time to win it in regulation.”

May’s cell phone has been ringing non-stop since.

May guided the Western Hockey League Chilliwack Bruins through their first two-and-a-half years before being let go.

He landed on his feet, signing on with Chicago as a western-based scout.

When the Hawks won the Stanley Cup in 2010, he hadn’t been around long enough to make any impact on the pro team.

The 2013 squad included two players, Brandon Saad and Andrew Shaw, that were selected in a draft May had a hand in.

“Now I’m getting ready to head to New York for this year’s draft,” May said. “But my head’s still spinning.”

All seven rounds of this year’s National Hockey League entry draft are scheduled for Saturday, taking place at the Prudential Centre in New Jersey.

Keep an eye on the TSN broadcast, and you’re likely to see May at the Chicago table.
