Baseball Canada recognized a pair of Langley Blaze alumni.
Kellin Deglan was named national junior team most valuable player, while Scott Mathieson received a special recognition award.
The pair received their awards at Baseball Canada’s annual awards banquet in Toronto (Jan. 15).
Deglan finished his Blaze career last summer. He was selected by the Texas Rangers in the first round (17th overall) in June’s Major League Baseball draft.
He helped Canada win fourth at the world junior baseball championships.
The 26-year-old Mathieson was named the Philadelphia Phillies’ minor league pitcher of the year after saving 26 games for the AAA Lehigh Valley IronPigs.
Mathieson was selected by the Phillies in the 17th round of the 2002 Draft.
He has appeared in 11 Major League games for Philadelphia — nine in 2006 and twice last year — but has also battled some major elbow injuries.
