The Bannister Blazers hope to hold first place for Christmas in the North Okanagan Pee Wee Super Hockey League.
With two games this weekend before the holiday break, the Blazers improved to 9-1 by icing Salmar Classics 4-2 Sunday afternoon at the Shaw Centre.
Jayden Viet, Trevor Moore, Cody Beckner and Aiden Rivard scored for the Blazers. Dawson Martian (2), Beckner and Tyler Kruysefix pocketed helpers. The Classics are 3-6.
In other Pee Wee action, the Butcher Boys Snipers skated to a 6-6 tie with the North Okanagan Knights Saturday morning at Nor-Val Sports Centre.
Jaxxon Collard opened the Sniper attack early, assisted by Derek Pereboom. On the next shift, Adam Young made it 2-0 with an assist from Aiden Trottier.
The Snipers then took cover while North Okanagan reeled off four goals. Adam Young completed his natural hat trick in the third with two unassisted goals.
After a couple more from the Knights, the Snipers rallied with five minutes to play and Collard earned a hat trick with two goals on the same shift, both assisted by Trottier.
The Sladen Moore Atom/Pee Wee Lakers girls lost 11-1 to Kelowna and 2-0 to Merritt.
Camryn Beacom scored the Laker goal, while Katrina Winstanley made several awesome saves as Kelowna peppered the net. Captain Robyn Alexis and Emily Branter worked hard on defence and newbie Makenna Jackson was a great addition with constant hustle. Emma Roine skated well up front.
Arianna Kositsin went the distance in Merritt, registering some dramatic stops in a scoreless first period. The Lakers only had eight skaters with Bailey Alexis and Makenzie Miller earning props for playing all positions.
The Lumby Stars (sponsored by Terry’s Automotive and Irly Bird Building Centre) dispatched the Vernon McDonald’s Golden Warriors 13-0 in Atom Super League action Sunday.
Kyle Wheeler supplied 4+1, while Bryden Murray bagged 3+2 for the Stars (7-2). Zachary Young, with 2+2, Ryder Quibell, with 2+1, Mia Maltman, with 1+2 and Garrett Louis completed the offence.
Jack Laventure produced a pair of helpers, while single assists came from Jace Catt, Quinten O’Neill and Faith Seehaver and Riley Dewhirst.
Tori Maltman, Cameron Smithson, Andrew Ranelli and Noah Ranelli turned in dynamic defensive showings to help James Wraight earn the shutout.
The team’s hard hat was awarded to Wheeler for his hustle and grit. Coaches Cole Young and Derek Murray will spend Christmas studying Hockey Canada videos in hopes of tweaking the Stars’ breakout and penalty kill.
In Bantam play, Salmon Arm North Broadview Plumbing & Heating grounded Vernon Interior Savings Just Orange 4-2 Sunday afternoon at Sicamous Recreation Centre.
Braydie Allan-Webber and Chase Batchelor rang up late goals less than a minute apart for the Orange, who fell behind 4-0. The hosts led 1-0 at the ice clean.
Interior Savings, now winless in three, falls to 2-6-3 on the year. Salmon Arm is 4-4-2.
