For the first time ever the Vancouver Island Regional Championship Swim Meet was held in Courtenay at the Aquatic Centre and by all accounts it was a huge success.
This was the final meet of the summer swim season and only the top three qualified for the Provincial meet to be held in Nanaimo. “Needless to say, in keeping with the Olympics, every swimmer’s goal was a podium finish,” an event spokesperson said. “It was nail biting at times and exhilarating to watch these young swimmers give it their all.
“The Blue Devils Summer Swim Club would like to thank coaches, parents, swimmers and the following businesses – Home and Garden Gate, Home Depot, Roots Salon, Starbucks, Rocky Mountain Café, Atlas Café, Whale’s Tales, Laughing Oyster Book Store, Wal-Mart, Canadian Superstore, Winners, Costco, Anderton Nursery, Courtenay Swim Shop, Booster Juice, Thrifty Foods, Budget Brake and Muffler, North Island College, and the CVAC Sharks swim club – for their generous donations and support for swimming,” the spokesperson said.
